Persona
Published by Matthew Pickard of Tiny Zine.
Note: I published this zine after Tiny. I don't know why exactly I left the Tiny franchise behind, but for some reason I felt the need too. Persona was my attempt to be smart and political. I was living in Madison at the time I learned to scam computer resources and this was the first time I had used computers to layout and keyboard a full zine. UW-Madison had an all-night computer lab that didn't check ID after 9 or 10 pm. I still remember braving the cold (quite a walk from my apartment) to make it to the lab to do an all night session of design. It was at this lab that I learned Ofto and Pagemaker – my introduction to desktop publishing, learning the programs on the fly. Persona was very well reviewed and I got tons of mail and tons of records, and when I would travel, I would come home with more money than when I left with. (A great review in MRR guaranteed this.) People would donate more than $1 at times, and that was always a very nice affirmation of the work I had done. I do miss publishing zines and really have no desire to join the online community of zines. I rather publish and offset again. Matthew Pickard 9:26am, 18 Dec 2006 (PST)

MAXIMUM ROCKNROLL Number 122, July 1993: PERSONA #1/$2ppd. 8.5"x11" - copied - 30 pages. More substance here than most things recently.Skipping standard 'punk zine" shit for the gusto - Articles (animal rights, cigarettes, nuclear power), columns, comics, short stories and the like. It's well laid out, east to read, and one of the best first issues I've seen in awhile. Address, Madison, WI. (Timojehn Mark)

- A few months after the publication I recieved a letter from the Wisconsin State Historical Society to not only send them a copy of #1, but to enter them in for a free subscription. I wrote them back and asked why. My answer was that they (WSHS) regularly requested grassroots publications to be saved and archieved in their stacks. That was so cool and I kept I the letters. What an honor! Matthew Pickard 11:01, 27 Dec 2006 (PST)
