MilwHC:Punk Picnics

  • If recall correctly, Milwaukee and Madison got into the punk picnic thing, later than the other neighboring scenes like Minneapolis or Chicago at the time. Or we were right there with the wave of them? I don't remember. They were quite fun though, without, ironically, music "getting" in the way. I don't remember how many were actually held, but at least two in Milwaukee and at least one in Madison. --Matthew Pickard 9:33, 13 Dec 2006 (PST)
  • I would often put on my "Jerk" hat at the picnics and demand that no music be played. There were a few reasons for this. First, I didn't want the picnics to just be about blasting/listening to music. I wanted people to talk and hang out, and trade zines, records, etc. and do other things besides just music, because to me, Punk was about more than just music. Also, even though we were all involved in the punk scene, you could never find something to listen to that everyone agreed on. I think we did a good job of throwing the picnics. I remember the soccer game in Milwaukee, and the wild playground run in Madison. Good times... --Pete Prodoehl 07:26, 25 Apr 2007 (CDT)
