Band History
Hailing from Waukesha, Wisconsin, USLM were sort of an art-rock hardcore type band. Or they defy classification. They put out 2 cassettes, "UNCLE SMOOTH AND THE LOST MAYANS" and "4..5..9..!" (which is police radio talk for robbery in progress,459). After 2 years, the band broke up in 1990 and moved to Minneapolis, MN.
Ed and Chad formed Gorge Trio with Deerhoof member John Dieterich. Ed also formed Collosomite with Dazzling Killmen's Nick Sakes. Ed also was a member in Iceburn. He currently plays in Flying Luttenbachers and lives in Oakland, CA. Chad Popple lives in Germany.
Mark Mallman continued his solo career as a songwriter. Eventually setting 2 world records for for "longest rock song ever written" ("Marathon 1" in 1999 - 26.2 hours, and "Marathon 2" in 2004 - 52.4 hours). Mallman's toured across America opening for such diverse acts as Guided by Voices, Beth Orton, Linda Ronstadt, Cat Power, Donovan, Tegan and Sara, Ozomatli, Everlast, Exene Cervenka, Howie Day, Cracker, and many others. He signed with BADMAN in 2004.
