Band History

Ten Boy Summer was an emo-ish band that existed around 1993/1994. Anthony (last name?) was the original bass player, but due to logistics (he lived in Waukesha, all other members lived in Milwaukee) and possibly some other reasons, Pete Prodoehl was brought in as a replacement and went on the tour at the end of 1993. (Pete was going anyway, he owned the van, and happened to play bass, and live with Davey and Jerod at the Mound House where Ten Boy Summer practiced.)

The name Ten Boy Summer? See this bit: "...this book, "Ten-Boy Summer," is about the quest of a few girls to see who can date ten boys before the summer ends..." from oasismag.com

We printed shirts for the Ten Boy Summer tour (December 1993 - January 1994) but because of the fear of shirts being printed after the demise of the band Davey and Matt demanded the screen be destroyed. So no shirt for you!

The tour went good, we met a lot of cool people, hung out with our friends from Once Again and Underdog Records, and the only bad things to happen were some minor damage to the van when Jerod ran over something, the breaking of a van window, and the theft of the show money from the van. Other than that, it was great! We played in Indiana, Texas, Chicago, Kansas City (I think?) and a few other places.

Comments

  • Ten Boy Summer was known for certain quirks. They would request that if anyone wanted to smoke, they not do it indoors, or while they were playing, or something like that. They also requested that people not clap. I believe this was due to the fact that the whole idea of punk was to break down the barriers between audience and band, and people should not be viewed as "fans." That was my take on it anyway... --Pete Prodoehl 05:05, 18 Aug 2005 (PDT)
  • Ten Boy Summer, in an attempt to produce a "wall of sound" and background noise, even between songs, used this old radio that had been slightly melted and painted red (with TBS lettering on it) as a noise generator. It was fun on tour always having to turn the dial around to get appropriate "between the stations" static. I still have this radio, it's in my basement. --Pete Prodoehl 05:05, 18 Aug 2005 (PDT)
  • Ten Boy Summer did have a track appear on a 12" compilation record. A "Food Not Bombs Benefit LP" put out by inchworm records from New Jersey. The song on the album was "the history of blank pages and the conscious decision to discontinue the tradition our gender has been plagued with" (Nice title, eh?) --Pete Prodoehl 05:05, 18 Aug 2005 (PDT)
