[edit] Comments

  • Despite the name they were not a straight-edge band.
  • Actually Bill and Rob were straight edge. --Dave Kaz 19:10, 16 Aug 2005 (PDT)
  • I guess Rob, Mike and me were straight edge. Straight edge really had nothing to do with the Mr. Clean icon being used for the band. I guess it looked tuff at the time. Bill Lorenz of N.O.D. was a one time singer for a show at the 700 club with D.I. in the basement. Who wants a shoe shine!? Bill C. Aug 17.
  • Mike McQueen: "So Darren, what are you rebelling against?" (From the "Stezala Basement Practice Tape") I heard there was also a "Red Dawn Practice Tape" where supposedly you can hear the movie Red Dawn in the background during a practice. --Raster 06:35, 17 Aug 2005 (PDT)
  • ^ In response to Bill's comment above, when the meeting of Self Denial and Mr. Clean took place (1986) and we all hung out together I do not recall drinking being involved for quite some time (years?). This is what I based my "straight edge" comment on. Not that any of us called ourselves "straight edge" (except possibly Dan Gatewood) at that time. --Dave Kaz 07:46, 17 Aug 2005 (PDT)
  • I don't think any Milwaukee band called themselves straight-edge until maybe 1990 or so. Even if a band's members all were non-drinkers, etc. it wasn't really an issue or label that seemed to come up. (Well, as Dave said, except possibly Dan Gatewood. ;) --Pete Prodoehl 12:39, 17 Aug 2005 (PDT)
  • Stolen Youth was totally straight edge (even though Arni sang for them, a bit). We, (N.O.D.) were always the ying to their yang. They were super rich kids. They had the best equipment, and every record you could imagine. Then they hit "the sauce" like most straight-edge kids did. All the drunks (like Cusin Bill & I) ending up the straight-edge dudes, which is pretty damn funny. John Lyman NOD
  • Ah, OK, I'll admit Stolen Youth had the "straight-edge" thing down, at least they appeared to. (Fist with the X even!) I guess I forget about them as they weren't people I really knew or hung out with, and it seemed they didn't really play many shows after 1987 or so... There was a crop of straight-edge bands around 1990 or so though, well, they might have even been "hardline straight-edge" come to think of it. --Pete Prodoehl 07:41, 22 Aug 2005 (PDT)
  • Rob Wernette was the subject of the Silent Scream song "Swollen Head Syndrome". Since Clean was the class of the local bands at that time. Rob was a bit full of himself. Unfortunately some of Silent Scream's members had their own bouts of "Swollen Head Syndrome". --Dave Kaz 10:11, 20 Aug 2005 (PDT)
  • Did Rob know the song was about him at the time? --Pete Prodoehl 07:41, 22 Aug 2005 (PDT)
  • The "Red Dawn" tape was made in Carl Whitt's basement during a practice. I think thats also the tape where you hear Carl's sister Joey telling us to shut up. Dave Kaz told me my guitar sounded like a Mosquito and it scarred me for life. (John K) fixed by --Dave Kaz 11:46, 6 Sep 2005 (PDT)
