[edit] Comments
- Before LSD was very well known in the punk scene, we once spent the day out at Sam's house in Hubertus to interview the band for XYZine #2. We had just met them all for the first time and they were a great bunch of guys. Sam's dad invented some tractor thing called the Dig-It, and the fruits of his success were evident in their home. Indoor pool, sauna, game room...it was huge. His mom made us goulash, then we climbed up on his roof and sat there getting buzzed off some nasty chewing tobacco. Good times. They later went on to play a show in my parents' living room while they were away for the weekend. There are still a few scuffs on the ceiling to this day from peoples' feet as they were passed around by the crowd... --Kevin (XYZine)
- Sam gained great fame for being involved in the "stabbing of the Hamm's bear" incident at the Tichigan Fireman's Picnic where Green Day was supposed to play. They ended up playing above an abortion clinic in Milwaukee... --Pete Prodoehl
- After LSD came back from tour, they said that they played great everywhere, and people seemed to like them. No one besides LSD could verify this fact though. ;) --Pete Prodoehl
- The Hamm's bear incident at the Tichigan Fireman's Picnic was actually more of a slashing than a stabbing and I confess that both the razor and the idea were mine. Sam was the patsy. I distinctly remember sticking my head inside a gaping slashwound in the ass of the Hamm's bear and marveling at the rush of air escaping past my ears. It seemed like a good idea at the time but I blame that on Blatherskite and our mission to purchase all the Colt 45 Powermaster in South Milwaukee. Boy, everyone sure was mad at us that night. --Jsn
- I remember being so pissed off at the people who slashed open the bear but nobody knew at the time that it would become a legendary part of Milwaukee punk history (its 18 years later and people are still talking about it). If you knew about the bear slashing than chances are you were part of the motorcade of cars heading from Tichigan to 27th (I think) and Wisconsin to that apartment to see Green Day who went on to success nobody even thought possible for a pop punk band at the time. People are still shocked when I tell them I saw Green Day above an abortion clinic in someone's living room. - JeffF.
